This first storybook is of a time long past, a roadtrip diary made with a Rolleiflex and a lot of hope. Ike was President. Mexico was just a generation out of its revolution. It was a good time, but about to get a lot stupider. To see this in sequence, start at the bottom of the first archive.
A drink stand in Los Mochis, a sugar mill town developed by an American from Virginia named Johnston, who built a mill here in the 1920s. The mill had been nationalized after the Mexican revolution, like the railroad that served it. The line ran through the Copper Canyon to El Paso.

Did photography from 1948 on. But after working as a magazine writer and editor for a while, and working in broadcasting, I made documentaries and industrial films, using my photographic knowledge with motion picture cameras. In retirement I am back to the still cameras and happily, because those images I can put on a wall or in a book, and sell the occasional print. Had two print exhibitions, one in Mexico and one in Seattle, using black-and-white images from the 1950s. Is photography art? You tell me. It sure is satisfying.
