The apartment was simply a large room with dividers.

His garden courtyard, where he washed.

His name was Sr. Villa-Lobos. He said he was not related to the composer of that name. I spoke with him in my labored Spanish, and in his story I heard him say he had studied in the United States. Finally I realized that he must speak English. He laughed and said of course, but the practice was good for my Spanish.

The coast range north of Tepic in Nayarit state, with low clouds. We were in the valley of the Rio Santiago with its distant aquaduct (in the far distance here) moving south between Tuxpan and Tepic.
